On January 5, I was interviewed by Erin Chalmers with Global News in Edmonton with regards to the recent announcement from the city that property prices were approximately 9% above the city's assessed value. The concern is that those wanting to sell their home will automatically assume that prices can be set 9% higher than what their assessed value shows. I do expect that there will be some uneducated sellers that will think that they can do this, however your market value is not the same as your assessed value from the city. Your property value is effected by a number of different factors including the current market activity, condition and features of your property that the city may not be aware of. So if you want to know what your home is worth, contact a REALTOR® who can help inform you of where your current market value is.
I have attached the News hour final video, unfortunately I was not able to obtain just the clip of that particular story, but if you skip forward to approximately 10 minutes in, you will be able to see the interview. You can also view it online by visiting Global News Edmonton.
